FATHER’S DAY! I am extremely blessed to be the father of TEN children! Nine biological children and one we absorbed into our family more than fifteen years ago! Father’s Day sometimes takes several days to meet up with all of my children but is worth every effort.
Baseball games, a day hanging out at the pool, and a special breakfast to wrap up the weekend we’re just a few highlights of my weekend.
My heart goes out to those who have lost their dads. I had to experience this for the first time this year as my dad passed away just over a month ago. I miss him deeply!
My heart also goes out to those dads who have broken or strained relationships with their child or children. It is a difficult place to be and many times includes a lot of heartbreak because a dad is designed to protect and help guide their children through life! One of a dad’s greatest desires is to hopefully help their children navigate life while avoiding obstacles and pitfalls.
Whether it is a miscommunication, unforgiveness, misunderstanding, or something deeper, the goal for most fathers is to have a restored relationship.
I am fortunate to have always had a strong relationship with my dad. We argued, disagreed, laughed, loved, and enjoyed life experiences. However, I know when he took his last breath, everything that ever needed to be shared or spoken had taken place. He was a man who kept a short account of transgressions. He forgave freely and always desired for everyone to live in peace. On my part, Dad left this world knowing how much he meant to me and how great he was as a dad!
My prayer for all dads on this Father’s Day weekend is for your relationships to be restored, renewed, or strengthened with your children. Time is short, but regret is long.
