Being a grandparent is one of the world’s greatest joys! My mother would always say, “If I had known the joy the grandchildren were, I would’ve had them first!”

As I enjoyed the afternoon at The McWane Science Center, I noticed an elderly man walking by holding the hand of a young boy. I thought about the importance of male role models in a young man’s life. Someone who can daily model integrity, character, and honesty.

Someone who doesn’t just try to act manly, but an individual that demonstrates how a man interacts with others, protects their family, and treats women with respect and honor.

A real man knows how to be a leader that is worth following. How to be honorable and respected when they have earned both but realizing that when they become haughty, it’s only a matter of time before they will fall.

All of this to demonstrate what a real man looks like to the generations to follow. Time is fleeting and so are the opportunities to pour into the lives of children. Even more the lives of our grandchildren.
